Exhaust manifold ceramic coating

The exhaust manifold is the hottest part of the exhaust and sits right next to the engine. Coating it lowers the heat that reaches everything around it, and protects the manifold itself from rust and scaling.

Why coat the manifold

Exhaust gas leaves the cylinder head at its hottest, and the manifold radiates that heat straight into the engine bay: onto the starter, wiring, brake lines and intake. A coated manifold runs about 30% cooler on the surface at 0.3 mm coating thickness.

Cast iron manifolds rust and scale, and thin-wall steel headers discolour and oxidise. The coating protects both.

Before you send it

Remove sensors, gaskets and heat shields, and tell us about any cracks or welded repairs. A crack has to be repaired before coating, because the coating will not close it.

What the coating does

  • Lower surface temperature on the manifold
  • Less heat on the starter, wiring and brake lines nearby
  • Rust and scale protection for cast iron and steel
  • No wrap to fray, hold moisture or replace

Questions

Can you coat a used manifold?

Yes. Used manifolds are cleaned and grit-blasted to bare metal before coating. Surface rust comes off in blasting; deep pitting or cracks need a look first, so send photos.

Cast manifold or tubular header: does it matter?

Both can be coated. Tubular headers often gain the most, because their thin walls let heat through quickly.

Sending a part by courier

Most parts reach us by courier. It takes three steps.

  1. Send photos and details

Use the form or WhatsApp. Tell us the part, the car or engine, and anything we should know, such as cracks or earlier repairs.

  2. Pack and ship the part

Once you accept the quote, remove sensors, gaskets and heat shields, pack the part well and ship it with any courier.

  3. Get it back coated

We coat the part and send it back to you, or you pick it up in Riga.

We send the shipping address together with your quote.

Packing tips

  • Wrap flanges and threads so they cannot be damaged in transit.
  • Use a sturdy box and fill the empty space so the part cannot move.
  • Put a note inside with your name, phone number and what you want coated.
  • Turbo housing

The turbine housing is a heat source right next to your intake. Coating it cuts heat soak.

  • Downpipe

The pipe right after the turbo, often routed past the gearbox, driveshaft and floor.

  • Intake manifold

Keeps engine heat out of the intake air on its way to the cylinders.

  • Pistons

A ceramic layer on the crown limits how much combustion heat soaks into the piston.

  • Brake pads and shims

A heat barrier between the pad and the caliper that keeps brake fluid cooler.

  • Motorcycle exhaust

Headers and collectors that run close to your legs, the frame and the fairings.
